The ESRB has published its official rating for Grand Theft Auto VI: Mature 17+, confirmed on its own ratings database. Rockstar's website and the PlayStation and Xbox store listings swapped their long-standing "Rating Pending" badge for the finished certificate on October 1, 2026, 49 days before the game's November 19, 2026 launch.
The seven content descriptors
The ESRB listing cites: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, alongside an In-Game Purchases notice tied to GTA Online rather than the single-player campaign. That matches the tier every mainline Grand Theft Auto has carried since GTA III in 2001.
What's new versus the earlier disclosure
The rating tier itself isn't a surprise — it's exactly what Sony's marketing emails signaled months ago, and what every prior mainline entry has carried. The one addition in the finished ESRB entry is Mature Humor, a descriptor that wasn't visible in the earlier retailer-sourced listing. Internationally, GTA 6 also carries PEGI 18 in the UK and Europe and R18+ / R18 in Australia and New Zealand respectively — the maximum consumer rating available in each region.
What this doesn't change
This is a ratings formality catching up to an outcome nobody seriously doubted — it doesn't change GTA 6's price, platforms, or November 19 release date. For console-level parental controls and a full breakdown of what the descriptors mean in practice, see our age rating and parents guide.
