GTA 6 Character Customization: Everything Confirmed

There's no GTA Online-style character creator in GTA 6. Here's exactly what Rockstar has confirmed for dressing, grooming, and physically changing Jason and Lucia.

GTA 6 has no character creator — you can't build your own protagonist. Customization means dressing and grooming Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the two fixed leads, not designing a character from scratch the way GTA Online lets you. What Rockstar has actually confirmed: a trunk-based outfit-swapping system available to everyone, a physique system that reacts to diet/exercise/sleep, and a set of named clothing, hair, and tattoo shops that are gated behind the $99.99 Ultimate Edition.

What's confirmed for everyone

Changing clothes via the trunk. Jason's and Lucia's personal vehicles have working trunks that store spare clothes and weapons, confirmed in Rockstar's August 27, 2026 Extended Look. You can swap outfits on the fly from the trunk — including mid-chase, which Rockstar says helps you shake the police "regardless of your wanted level." That's the one appearance-changing mechanic confirmed for every copy of the game, Standard or Ultimate.

The fashion ecosystem behind it. Rockstar has worked with Miami-based stylist Jillian Carr since 2023 to build what the studio calls a "fashion ecosystem" for Leonida. Carr told Rockstar's team that "Vice City is built around vanity" and that "appearances carry significant weight, and trend cycles turn over quickly" — context for why clothing exists as a system at all, rather than a cosmetic afterthought.

The physique system. Separately from what you wear, diet, exercise, and sleep visibly reshape Jason and Lucia — exercise builds and tones muscle, overeating adds weight, and going too long without sleep leaves visible fatigue. This was confirmed by Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson to Dazed in August 2026. Full details, including what's not yet confirmed about gameplay effects, are in our weight, gym & eating system guide.

Pre-order outfits. The Vintage Vice City Pack, included with every pre-order through November 20, 2026 regardless of edition, adds Vice City-style outfits and hairstyles for both protagonists. See the pre-order bonus guide for the full contents.

What's locked behind the Ultimate Edition

Every specific clothing, hair, or tattoo shop Rockstar has named by name is exclusive to the $99.99 Ultimate Edition:

ShopWhat it doesEdition
Stock 305 (Stockyard)Exclusive outfits and looks for Jason and LuciaUltimate only
Sara's Unisex SalonSignature hairstyles, facial hair for Jason, makeup and nails for LuciaUltimate only

Ultimate buyers also get two confirmed apparel collections: Vice City Style (exclusive outfits and tattoos) and Goodtime Gear, a capsule collection tied to Macca the Gator, a character from the in-world Goodtime State TV show. Rockstar's own listing describes these three shops as "only open for business with the Ultimate Edition." For everything else in that edition — vehicles, weapons, the Paradise Garage property — see the full editions breakdown.

What's not confirmed (despite the rumors)

Bottom line

If you're picturing a GTA Online-style create-a-character screen, GTA 6 doesn't have one — Jason and Lucia are fixed leads. What's actually confirmed is a trunk-based outfit swap available to all players, a diet/exercise/sleep physique system, and three named shops (clothing, salon, tattoo) that are Ultimate Edition exclusives. Everything else — a general clothing store for Standard owners, hair growth, a tattoo editor — is unannounced. For the two characters this all applies to, see Jason vs. Lucia, and for the edition gate on the named shops, see price and editions.

FAQ

Can you create your own character in GTA 6?

No. Unlike GTA Online, there is no character creator — you play as the two fixed, voiced protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. 'Customization' in GTA 6 means changing what they wear and how they look, not building a character from scratch.

Is character customization locked behind the Ultimate Edition?

Every clothing store, salon, and tattoo parlor Rockstar has actually named so far — Stock 305, Sara's Unisex Salon, and Electric Fang Tattoo — is Ultimate Edition exclusive. Rockstar hasn't confirmed any equivalent shop for Standard Edition owners, though GTA 5's precedent makes some general wardrobe system likely at launch.

How do you change clothes in GTA 6?

The confirmed method is each protagonist's car trunk: Jason's and Lucia's personal vehicles store spare clothes and weapons, letting you swap outfits on the fly — including mid-chase, to throw off police.

Does changing clothes lower your wanted level in GTA 6?

Changing clothes via the trunk system is confirmed to help you evade police 'regardless of your wanted level,' per Rockstar's Extended Look. Rockstar hasn't published the exact mechanic (whether it drops stars outright or just breaks line of sight/recognition).

What's in the Ultimate Edition for customization?

Three exclusive shops — Stock 305 (clothing), Sara's Unisex Salon (hair, plus facial hair for Jason and makeup/nails for Lucia), and Electric Fang Tattoo (50+ tattoos designed by art collective FAILE) — plus two confirmed apparel sets, 'Vice City Style' and the Macca the Gator-themed 'Goodtime Gear.'

Does your appearance affect anything besides looks in GTA 6?

Yes, separately from clothing: Rockstar confirmed a physique system where diet, exercise, and sleep visibly change Jason's and Lucia's weight, muscle tone, and fatigue. See our dedicated breakdown for how that works.
