GTA 6 Price & Editions: Standard vs Ultimate

GTA 6 costs $79.99 (Standard) or $99.99 (Ultimate). Every confirmed item in each edition, whether Ultimate is worth $20 more, and physical vs digital.

Grand Theft Auto VI comes in exactly two editions, both priced and detailed when pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026:

That's the entire lineup. There is no collector's edition, no early-access tier, and no season pass — just the base game and one $20 step up. This page breaks down every confirmed item in each edition so you can decide which one to buy. For where to buy and how store refund policies compare, see the preorder bonuses and stores guide; for when you'll actually play, see the release date guide.

Everything below comes from Rockstar's pre-order announcement and store listings. The Vintage Vice City Pack row applies to all pre-orders placed through November 20, 2026, regardless of edition — it's a pre-order bonus, not an Ultimate perk.

What the Ultimate Edition actually adds

The Ultimate Edition is not a launch-day inventory dump. Per Rockstar's descriptions, its content is woven into the story — items and unlocks become available to Jason and Lucia chapter by chapter as you progress.

Vehicles. Six of them, spanning land and water: the mid-'90s Grotti Cheetah, the '67 Dominator Buggy (which comes with the Paradise Garage), the pink-to-blue Shitzu Squalo speedboat, a retro-modded Vapid Ganado pickup, a Dinka Enduro dirt bike, and a Crest Kayak.

Named weapons. This is where the Vice City fan service concentrates. The his-and-hers Morgan Revolvers carry "Vice City stylings sourced from the Vercetti Estate" — palm trees etched into the grips, engraved detailing. Jason gets a personalized Girardi ES9 and Lucia a personalized Klose K17, custom versions of their signature sidearms. Full stats and screenshots on each weapon's page: Morgan Revolver, Girardi ES9, Klose K17.

Places and missions. Ultimate buyers get five exclusive shops across Leonida — a mod shop, salon, streetwear store, tattoo parlor, and an off-road garage out by Lake Leonida — plus the Paradise Garage property in Watson Bay and two exclusive missions: a raid on the PTT Youngin$ illegal goods store and a classic-car restoration commission for a character named Wyman.

Is Ultimate worth $20 more? An honest read

Buy Ultimate if you're the kind of player who mains a favorite car, cares about weapon skins, or wants every mission on the map — two exclusive missions, six vehicles, four custom weapons, a property, and five shops is genuinely a lot of content for $20, and far more than GTA 5's old special editions offered.

Buy Standard if you mainly want the story. Nothing in the Ultimate Edition is described as affecting the plot, and the upgrade can be purchased separately at any time — so the rational move for undecided buyers is Standard now, upgrade later if the Ultimate content proves tempting in-game. You lose nothing by waiting; the only deadline that matters is the November 20, 2026 pre-order-bonus cutoff, and that bonus (the Vintage Vice City Pack) comes with both editions anyway.

Early buyers are leaning Ultimate anyway: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told CNBC on August 10, 2026 that pre-orders are "skewing more" toward the $99.99 edition, though he cautioned that's likely because the most avid fans buy first, not necessarily a preview of how the wider audience will split.

Independent analytics firm Sensor Tower put a number on that skew in mid-August 2026: roughly 89% of tracked pre-orders are for the Ultimate Edition, versus 11% for Standard, across an estimated 4.38 million pre-orders tracked since late June (about 77% on PS5, 23% on Xbox Series X|S). "I have never seen a 90% premium share before," Sensor Tower's Karl Kontus said, noting typical games see a 10-20% premium-edition split. He expects the ratio to move closer to 50/50 as marketing widens and more casual buyers pre-order. These are third-party estimates, not figures confirmed by Take-Two or Rockstar, since neither company has disclosed exact pre-order numbers.

Physical vs digital

The physical release of GTA 6 is a boxed download code — there is no disc. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed this directly on the company's August 7, 2026 earnings call, arguing that "discs... don't really make sense for the consumer" given that Take-Two's business is already over 90% digital. That means a full download on day one either way, so the classic disc advantages (no download, lendable, resellable) don't apply here. Digital pre-orders additionally get preload from November 12, 2026 and the free month of GTA+ (usable in the current GTA Online, since GTA 6 itself launches single-player only). Given the game's expected enormous install size, preloading is worth planning for.

Region-locking on PS5, not Xbox. Rockstar Support has confirmed the boxed PS5 code only redeems on a PSN account registered to the region the box was sold in, while Xbox Series X|S codes redeem on any account regardless of purchase region. This matters mainly for buyers importing a physical copy from another country — check the box's region against your PSN account before ordering, since Rockstar hasn't indicated failed redemptions are refundable.

Regional pricing

Rockstar's confirmed pricing so far: $79.99 / £70 / €79.99 Standard and $99.99 / €99.99 Ultimate. In Poland, the digital editions are 349 zł (Standard) and 429 zł (Ultimate) on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, with the disc-less boxed version costing roughly 48 zł more than digital — a sore point in Polish coverage, since the box contains only a code. More regional details, including where to order in Europe, are in the preorder guide.

No holiday discount expected

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told CNBC in mid-August 2026 that GTA 6 buyers shouldn't count on a holiday price cut, pointing to how long Take-Two kept GTA 5 at full price after its 2013 launch. Retailers are technically free to discount the game on their own — "storefronts can do what they wish," Zelnick said — but that means eating their own margin, which he suggested is unlikely for a launch selling this fast. Budget for full price if you're buying around the November 19, 2026 release or over the following holiday season.

FAQ

How much does GTA 6 cost?

The Standard Edition is $79.99 (£70 / €79.99) and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99 (€99.99). In Poland the digital editions are 349 zł and 429 zł on the PlayStation and Xbox stores.

What's the difference between the Standard and Ultimate Editions?

Standard is the base game. Ultimate adds six exclusive vehicles, four personalized weapons, the Paradise Garage property, five exclusive shops, two exclusive missions, and a set of outfits, tattoos, and hairstyles — all woven into the story rather than dumped in your inventory at the start.

Is the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition worth $20 more?

If you care about exclusive vehicles like the '95 Grotti Cheetah, the his-and-hers Morgan revolvers, and the two Ultimate-only missions, yes — it's a lot of content for $20. If you just want the story, the Standard Edition is the complete game, and you can buy the Ultimate upgrade separately later.

Can I upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. Rockstar sells the Ultimate Edition content as a separate upgrade for Standard Edition owners, purchasable at any time — you don't have to decide before launch.

Does the physical edition of GTA 6 include a disc?

No. The physical release ships as a boxed download code, not a disc, so every copy requires a full digital download either way.

Is the physical GTA 6 code region-locked?

On PS5, yes — Rockstar Support confirms the boxed code only redeems on a PSN account registered to the same region it was sold in. Xbox Series X|S codes have no such restriction and redeem on any account.

Will GTA 6 get a holiday discount?

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told CNBC in mid-August 2026 not to expect one — he pointed to how long Take-Two held GTA 5 at full price after launch. Individual retailers are technically free to discount on their own, but that means eating their own margin, which Zelnick suggested is unlikely this soon after a launch this in-demand.
