Take-Two Interactive reported its first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on Friday, August 7, 2026, and on the earnings call that followed, CEO Strauss Zelnick described demand for GTA 6 pre-orders — open since June 25 — in some of the strongest language a Take-Two executive has used about the game: "the level of pre-orders is unprecedented and astonishing, and we're very grateful for that."
Take-Two did not disclose an exact pre-order figure. Zelnick was explicit about that caution, saying the numbers "are so unprecedented that we just don't know how it'll translate into sales" and that the company doesn't want to claim victory before the game is actually out. For the quarter overall — which captured only the final five days of June's pre-order window — Take-Two reported $1.39 billion in net bookings, down 3% from $1.42 billion a year earlier, with the GTA series named among the largest contributors alongside NBA 2K and Red Dead Redemption. Citing "these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch," the company reiterated its full fiscal-2027 net bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion.
Zelnick also addressed two points of ongoing fan debate. On the $79.99 Standard / $99.99 Ultimate pricing, he said he believes Rockstar "got it right" in giving buyers a price they can choose based on budget. On why the physical release ships as a boxed download code rather than a disc, he argued that "discs... don't really make sense for the consumer" today, noting Take-Two's business is already over 90% digital and comparing physical game media to vinyl records — still around, but no longer the default.
Nothing here changes the game itself: GTA 6 remains confirmed for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, per Rockstar's release-date announcement, with no new price, edition, or delay signaled. The news is entirely about how the publisher is framing demand five months out — the strongest public read yet on how pre-orders are landing before actual sales figures exist.
