The Leonida Keys stretch out from the southern tip of Leonida as a chain of small tropical islands, linked to the mainland and to each other by causeway roads modeled on real Florida infrastructure. Rockstar markets the chain as a gateway to paradise, promising sandy beaches, palm trees, and clear water alongside a slower, more casual pace of life than Vice City offers.

Beneath the postcard surface, the waters around the Keys are said to hold real danger, with marinas, coastal scenery, and marine life that ranges from turtles and tropical fish to sharks. Key Lento, an analog for Key Largo, is the best documented of the islands so far — the name is itself a small joke, since lento and largo are both musical tempo markings for "slow." The arrangement ties the Keys' laid-back image to the criminal undercurrent that runs through the rest of Leonida, and positions the chain as a starting point for at least part of the game's story.

Anything about specific missions set in the Keys beyond Jason's introductory arc remains unconfirmed.

Real-world inspiration

The chain is a close analog of the Florida Keys, the string of islands running southwest from the Florida mainland toward Key West. Key Lento's stand-in for Key Largo is the most concrete example, but outlets have also pointed to smaller islands and bridge crossings in the trailers as matches for real Keys geography, reinforcing how tightly Rockstar's fictional Leonida tracks the real state it's based on.
