The oldest criminal enterprise players will meet in Grand Theft Auto VI belongs to Brian Heder. His official Rockstar bio calls him "a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys," who is "still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori," and who has "been around long enough to let others do his dirty work." In three lines, Rockstar sketches a whole organization: the aging boss, the spouse in the business, the boat yard as infrastructure, and a bench of younger hands taking the risks.
One of those hands is a protagonist. PC Gamer's character breakdown connects the dots shown in Trailer 2: the small house Jason Duval fixes up early in the footage belongs to Brian, who lets Jason live there rent-free in exchange for help with his operations — debt and obligation standing in for a payroll. Rockstar's own character copy adds Cal Hampton, Jason's conspiracy-minded friend, describing him as "a fellow associate of Brian's," which makes the boat yard the hub connecting the story's Leonida Keys cast before events push toward Vice City (details in our story-so-far guide).
The "golden age of smuggling" line is a deliberate nod to real Keys history — the 1970s and 80s, when the island chain's fishing fleets and thousand hidden coves made it a legendary corridor for marijuana and cocaine running, the era that gave South Florida its crime-fiction mythology. Rockstar has mined this vein before: Vice City's whole 1986 premise ran on it, and GTA V's Trevor ran a scrappier smuggling shop out of Sandy Shores. Brian is the archetype grown old — how his operation's fortunes tie into the game's larger conspiracy is not yet confirmed.
